Workshop-in-a-BoxIn an effort to move the members of the 4-H Youth Development Program into the world of technology, and keep them up to date, The California State 4-H Computer Corps offers workshops in the areas below.Animation with Flash - Ever watched a cartoon on the internet and thought "I wonder if I could do that?" You can! You will receive 3 hours of hands-on training using Macromedia Flash. After this workshop, you'll be able to digitally draw objects, make them move, add sound, and add them to the web! Final animations will be shown during a SLC assembly. Participant Expectations: Intermediate to advanced computer skills, tech savvy, creativity, and ability to experiment with advanced software. Computer Resume - In the business world a good resume can make the difference between getting an interview or getting passed by. This lesson teaches youth to prepare a comprehensive resume in Microsoft Word. Creating Newsletters - Need to get out information to your club members? Learn how to create either a hardcopy or online newsletter! Acquire computer know how and journalistic style, in learning how to get the news out and making it snazzy with clipart! You will learn how to create a newsletter and leave the workshop with a prototype! Desktop Basics - Are you tired of staring at computers and not knowing how to use the applications? This workshop is precisely what you have been looking for. You can learn how to start your computer, run applications, know what the desktop icons are for, and even learn how to change your background to suit your mood. you will even make desktop icons for applications that don't already have them. You'll find out computers are just another tool available to us today! Digital Photography - Interested in the digital lifestyle? Get started in digital photography as we teach you everything from getting your first camera to sharing photos with your friends. For the camera-shy, learn how to perform basic touch ups on your photo so you can be yourself. Then share your creations between your friends. GIS-GPS - This workshop is designed to reach out to many 4-H members and leaders nation wide on this fast growing technology. Learn what GPS and GIS is and how 4-H is implementing this technology to impact and change many communities all over. At the end of the workshop you can also add on an geo caching event to get the youth and adults more interested. Geo-Caching - Take a step into the future! Go on an exciting adventure discover the secret treasure using geospatial technology. (Warning: This workshop will involve a high level of walking and wit!!!) Internet Communications - Want a convenient way to get in touch with the untouchables? Come learn how to effectively and safely communicate with others on-line. This session will equip you with all of the skills you will need to stay afloat in this age of digital communication. From Instant Messaging, to on-line journaling and mass E-mail systems; we'll cover it all! Come on down and get connected to the 21st Century! Introduction to Personal Computers - You've been using your computer for a while; writing letters, sending email and now you want to customize it for you! Learn how to change the screen saver, background, sounds, desktop icons, and start menu! Computer safety and security will also be discussed, including how to protect your computer from viruses. Backup your data and create an emergency startup disk, just in case. Maintain your computer; make it efficient and customize it to your tastes. Labtops for Presentations - Want to be able to present professional speeches? Well come to our session and you'll learn how to build and prepare your speech with technology. Use a projector to show your speech and add a little music. Prepare to make your speeches like a pro. Photoshop - Ever wanted to know how models in magazines look so perfect? One word... Photoshop! Using filters, text effects, layers, masks, and brushes, you can do almost anything with a photograph and enough patience. Want to learn some more about using the program, or just want to pick up a few neat (and free) tricks to touch up your pictures? Come on in for some photo editing fun! Networking Basics - Have you ever heard the term LAN or the term NIC? They are used in Ethernet networks. You will learn basic networking skills and how to play LAN games on your personal home network. Find out the difference between Cable and DSL connections and be ready to impress your friends away by your new computer skills. Digital Presentations - Want to be able to present professional speeches? Well come to our session and you'll learn how to build and prepare your speech with technology. Use a projector to show your speech and learn all the little tricks of the trade. Prepare to present like a pro! Server-side Scripting with ASP - Learn Interactive Webpage design using ASP, Microsoft's Server-Side Scripting language. Add flexibility and interactivity to your webpages! Interact with a database, displaying information from SQL queries, entering data, and making your website truly dynamic. ASP allows incredible control over webpages. This workshop will begin with a basic overview of Server-Side Scripting, following by more advanced control statements using VBScript, interacting with Access Database, and introducing other features of ASP. Simulations - Do you think you could play games and learn at the same time? Well in this workshop that is exactly what you are going to do. You will learn how to strategize, learn money-managing skills, and learn how to fly a plane, all by playing simulation games. Be prepared to have fun and also to learn new skills. Tame Technology with a State, County or Club Technology Corps - Does your county have a 4-H Technology Team? Do you need ideas on what a 4-H Technology Team can do for your county? T Ideas will be shared on what 4-H Technology Teams can do to help integrate technology into 4-H. Sources of funding, potential team structures, activities, and projects will be outlined! Technology for Students - Looking forward to moving off to college this fall or the experience in general? Learn how common gadgets can really streamline college life. We will cover how to revolutionize how you take classroom notes, keep family and friends up to date, avoid conflicts with roommates and even pass time between classes in the new efficient digital lifestyle college students must have. Video Editing - Did you know that you have all the tools you need to produce a professional quality video? If you have access to a digital camcorder and an average computer, you already have all the resources that you need to create dazzling productions for your family and friends. We'll provide you with all the knowledge you need to unleash your inner Spielberg. Come to this hands on session, and take your place in the director's chair. Web Journals - Do you have a LiveJournal? Are you on MySpace.com? This workshop will explore on-line blogging and journaling communities: what they are, how to get connected, and safety considerations. Website Design - From Internet basics, HTML and visual page creation programs to design characteristics and posting a new site, this session will survey all the topics necessary to get you on your way to creating a new web presence. Methods of posting your web site will be demonstrated, including free hosting for general sites and space on the CA 4-H server for 4-H sites. Delegates should come with a basic knowledge of using a computer (internet browsing and word processing.) |
