The purpose of the State 4-H Office is to:

  1. Support local efforts and activities related to the California 4-H Youth Development Program
    • Programmatically and administratively (through the Program Office)
    • Financially (through The California 4-H Foundation)
  2. Coordinate state level activities and programs of the California 4-H Youth Development Program
  3. Identify and secure funding for statewide and/or multi-county events and activities

Provides statewide programmatic leadership and administrative and operational support for California’s 4-H Youth Development Program.  Provides statewide  leadership and guidance to 4-H’s Mission and Direction.  Conducts and oversees statewide short and long-term 4-H YD program planning, evaluation and policy development.  Provides leadership in extramural fund development in collaboration with the California 4-H Foundation.  Coordinates statewide operations with county, regional, and national 4-H YD programs, the 4-H Center for Youth Development, and related Division workgroups.  Fosters team building with teams of academic peers, youth professionals, volunteers, youth and other cooperators. Serves as liaison between the 4-H YDP and various external stakeholder groups; Oversee the administration and management of the Statewide 4-H YDP Office.

4-H Center for Youth Development

The 4-H Center for Youth Development (CYD), located at UC Davis in Hart Hall, conducts and promotes collaborations in research and evaluation between University of California (UC) Cooperative Extension professionals and UC campus-based scientists that deepen our understanding of youth development in the contexts of family and community.

The mission of the CYD is to:

  1. Facilitate collaborations for and conduct research and evaluation that increases understanding of youth development in the contexts of family and community,
  2. Extend knowledge to UC Cooperative Extension and other youth professionals in the science of youth development, applied research, and evaluation,
  3. Provide communications to a broad range of stakeholders about the research, evaluation, education, and training activities of the CYD,
  4. Provide campus-based support that facilitates the ongoing research, evaluation, education, and training of UC Cooperative Extension professionals.
